Welcome to the TEI by Example project!

A second major component of each TEI by Example module consists of an examples section, featuring real-life examples of TEI encoded texts. These examples closely adhere to the concepts introduced in the tutorial section, in order to illustrate how they can be applied to texts in the wild. The examples are discussed briefly, and remarkable, valuable, alternative encoding features are pointed out where applicable. In order to approach real-life encoding practice as much as possible, most of these examples have been collected from the text encoding community. Where necessary, they have undergone slight editing (such as conversion from earlier TEI versions). This is clearly pointed out in a bibliographic note for each example, which also kindly credits its contributor and points to further information on the web.

We welcome further examples; if you happen to have any text samples that you want to share under a Creative Commons Share Alike license, please do get in touch at teibyexample@ed.ac.uk
